DON'T buy gear without speaking to me first!  It will save you $

Equipment can be a significant expense for new tec divers, especially a set of double cylinders which can be $1200 upwards for cylinders, bands and manifold.  There is an alternative to this that is NOT AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE, that is doing the class in SIDEMOUNT.  Doing the class in Sidemount negates the cost of twin cylinders as regular, widely available, single cylinders can be used instead.  The downside?  I am not sure that there is one!

Your sidemount rig, can often be used for single, double and sidemount cylinders (one rig does all).  You will need either a double bladder (plus wetsuit) or a single bladder (plus drysuit)- look at the cost and versatility here and I think you will agree that sidemount has a significant cost saving edge- plus tec diving in far away resorts or just where doubles are not regularly available is made easy with sidemount- just grab two regular cylinders!   Do consider doing this class in SIDEMOUNT.

Sidemount Instruction available- see www.sidemountinstructor.com for details or contact me.

Equipment and its configuration are key components of successful technical diving.  Below is the list of equipment required for Tec 40- 65 and hypoxic trimix.  Almost all of your recreational scuba equipment can be used at TEC40 and much of it can be used at TEc 45- 65, although some of it will be less useful.  Talk to Paul about suitable gear choices.  The DSAT and TDI courses are flexible so bring what you have, what you usually use, and what you like- you will be asked to defend your choices to illustrate the philosophy of the thinking tech diver.

Note that many items of equipment can be rented for the courses.  See bottom of this page for rental costs.

Course crewpacks and the Tec Deep (or Trimix) Diver/ TDI manuals are required for all courses.

BEFORE you make any gear changes or purchases, do take the time to discuss with Paul whether such actions would be necessary and if so, what might be the best and most cost effective solution.

Attempting to perform technical diving without proper training and equipment may result in serious injury or death.
